The mayor of New York City offered words of compassion following a recent collision that occurred on Broadway. The incident involved a taxi cab, a bicyclist and several pedestrians. Several people remain in critical conditions after the incident, which caused chaos and alarm on a Monday afternoon in Manhattan.
The initial impact of the crash occurred when the taxi driver turned onto Broadway from a westbound direction and struck a bicyclist who was heading south. Investigators say that the bicyclist was dragged under the taxi for some distance. The vehicle then hopped a curb in front of a bagel store and struck numerous pedestrians.
2 women were trapped under the taxi
Police say that passersby rallied together to come to the aid of two of the pedestrians who were struck by the out-of-control taxi. Both women were reportedly pinned underneath the vehicle. Reportedly, at least 20 people gathered around the cab and attempted to lift it to free the women. The bicyclist, the two women and several others suffered injuries in the collision.
Police discover past violations after running taxi cab plate numbers
The license plate number of the taxi led police to discover that the vehicle was used in connection with 18 violations in the past three years. Violations include running red lights and speeding in school zones. When a pedestrian suffers physical, emotional or economic damages because of a motorist’s negligence, he or she can file a personal injury claim against the driver in a civil court to seek financial recovery for the losses that occurred.
